COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This lab-based college preparatory course provides understanding of the basic biological concepts: the diversity of organisms; the cell; heredity; matter, energy and organization of living systems; evolution; physiology; the biosphere. Focus is on active student participation in lab investigations and the development of critical thinking skills. This course meets the life science graduation requirement for LAUSD and one year of the University of California “d” entrance requirement for lab science.

GRADING
SCALE:
Grades are calculated on a percentage using a weight system.:
A: 90-100 %
B: 80-89 %
C: 65-79 %
D: 50-64 %
F: 0-49 %
GRADED WORK:
Graded work will include:
Tests / Quizzes 55% of total grade
Homework 10% of total grade
Classwork 10% of total grade
Labs / Projects 25% of total grade
MAKE-UP WORK:
Must come in after school for make-up work.
All late work will receive a “C” if done well.
You must have a note from your parents for makeup work if you were late or absent.
EXTRA CREDIT:
As may become available
Please be on time. A student is marked tardy if s/he is not in his/her seat and ready to work when the tardy bell begins to ring.
If you are tardy, please stand by the entrance until I mark you tardy on the roll sheet.
Please advise me of any medical reasons you have, that may be prevent you from standing or require extra help.
Be prepared. Always bring your notebook, clean paper, and a pen or pencil.
Be silent when the teacher is lecturing.
If you have a question for the teacher or need to leave your seat, be sure to raise your hand to be recognized by the teacher.
Be considerate. Please respect other students and the property of others, including school property.
Don't be rude!
There shall be respect between student and teacher.
Office hours will be after school. Please let me know if you need help, don't wait until it is too late to raise your grade. I'm usually here everyday after school.
You may make up tests or get missing
work.
Save all returned work. Your returned work is your proof of points earned on assignments.
No personal grooming - comb hair, put on makeup, curl eye lashes, or fix clothing in class.
No hoods over heads, so I can see that no headphones are on
I should not see any headphones or music devices in the classroom at anytime. I will take away for one day or return to your parents or at a later date.
No cell phones being used. Put on vibrate mode. I will take away if they ring out loud.
